Bacchus Vineyard

Bacchus is one of six vineyards managed by Sagemoor. Located on the east side of the Columbia River and 15 miles north of Tri-Cities, WA, Bacchus resides in the White Bluffs AVA and has 180 acres planted to wine grapes. Next door to our Dionysus Vineyard, they share a commanding view to the west overlooking the mighty Columbia River and the Rattlesnake Mountains. The sloping land’s elevation ranges from 550 to 900 feet, and soft rolling knolls keep vineyard temperatures warm with excellent air drainage.

In 1972 Bacchus was originally planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling. After years of experimentation and feedback from winery partners, we removed Chenin Blanc and added Cabernet Franc and Syrah. Bacchus is a leading source of old vine Washington fruit with over 35 acres of original 1972 Cabernet Sauvignon, and 16 acres of 1972 Sauvignon Blanc plantings.

Bacchus receives water from the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project. The vineyard utilizes drip irrigation with sprinklers used for frost control, cooling, and occasional irrigation. This drip irrigation enables us to use Regulated Deficit Irrigation (RDI). With RDI and soil moisture monitoring, we are able to constantly fine tune and improve quality.

Dionysus Vineyard

Dionysus is in the White Bluffs AVA and has 150 acres of wine grapes and is next door to our Bacchus Vineyard, they share a commanding view to the west overlooking the mighty Columbia River and the Rattlesnake Mountains. Elevation ranges from 600 to 900 feet on the southwestern slope with soft rolling knolls providing a warm site with excellent air drainage.

In 1973, Dionysus was originally planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Gamay Beaujolais, Gewurztraminer, Semillon, Trousseau Gris (Grey Riesling), and Zinfandel. Through experimentation and feedback from our winery partners, Dionysus still grows Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, but the other varietals have been replaced by Merlot, Semillon and Petit Verdot. Cabernet Sauvignon has since become the flagship variety on this vineyard site.

Dionysus receives water from the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project. The vineyard utilizes drip irrigation with sprinklers used for frost control, cooling, and occasional irrigation. This drip irrigation enables us to use Regulated Deficit Irrigation (RDI). With RDI and soil moisture monitoring, we’ve been able to constantly fine tune and improve quality.

Gamache Vineyard

Gamache sits above the white bluffs overlooking Basin City to the east with 200 acres of wine grapes. The highest elevation is 960 feet with a gentle, mile-long southwestern slope ending at 840 feet. Bordering the east side of the vineyard is a 300-foot drop to the valley floor, towards Basin City.

Sagemoor Vineyards acquired Gamache in 2016 from brothers Bob and Roger Gamache. When the Gamache brothers first located the site in 1980, they asked Dr. Walter Clore to walk the property. After viewing the site, he shared there was “absolutely no reason you can’t grow good quality wine grapes here.” Deeming the land sufficiently blessed, the Gamaches moved forward in a time when there were only about 10 bonded wineries in the state.

In 1982, Gamache planted 20 acres each of Chenin Blanc and Semillon. Riesling was planted in 1983. Gamache still has its original Riesling as well as Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Gris, Roussanne, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Viognier.

Gamache gets water from the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project. Additionally, we have individual valves at each block to fine-tune irrigation as needed.

  • White Bluffs

  • Gamache soil is primarily Warden sandy loam with a little Kennewick sandy loam. There’s caliche (a hardened natural cement of calcium carbonate) about 12 inches down in the northern part of the site and a few other areas as well.

Sagemoor Vineyard

Sagemoor is the namesake property of the six vineyards in the Sagemoor Vineyards family. It’s on the east side of the Columbia River, 15 miles north of Tri-Cities, WA. Sagemoor is in the White Bluffs AVA and has 80 acres planted to wine grapes. It’s also the next door to Bacchus and Dionysus vineyards.

The original partners of Sagemoor pioneered the early Washington wine industry. Alec Bayless, Albert Ravenholt, Winslow Wright, and Syd Abrams were visionaries that shaped the direction and development of Sagemoor Vineyard, as well as the WA wine industry as a whole in its crucial formative years.

After 40+ years of experimentation and feedback from winery partners, Sagemoor grows Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec, Sangiovese, and Grenache for reds. Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Roussanne, and Chardonnay for white.

We have 10 acres of 1972 Cabernet Sauvignon plantings, a great source for “old vine” Washington Cab.

Sagemoor Vineyards has a stunning view to the southwest overlooking the mighty Columbia River and the Rattlesnake Mountains. The southwestern sloping land with elevation ranging  from 400-860 feet provides ideal conditions for both grapes and tree fruit.

Sagemoor Vineyards has a secure water source thanks to the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project. Originally, Sagemoor was irrigated with overhead sprinklers which was most useful for frost protection as well as irrigation. Since those early days, we’ve converted to drip irrigation, with sprinklers used for frost control, cooling, and occasional irrigation. Drip irrigation allows us to use Regulated Deficit Irrigation (RDI). With RDI and soil moisture monitoring we’ve been able to constantly fine tune and improve quality.
